The Subclipse Eclipse plugin for working with SVN (Subversion)

subversion

I got tired of using TortoiseSVN and decided to try the Subclipse plugin for Eclipse, so I could have everything integrated into one all-in-one tool :)

The official guide is available at this link, but it describes installation on older versions of Eclipse. I’ll show you how to install it on Eclipse 3.4.2 with Subversion 1.5.5.

Installation

Go to Help -> Software Updates… -> Available Software, click “Add Site…”, and enter the following in “Location”:

http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x

Then select the necessary items:
Subclipse installation

Install and restart Eclipse…

I had a problem until I included “Subversion JavaHL Native Library Adapter” in the installation—the svn-client wouldn’t work, and Eclipse kept telling me to fuck off! So don’t forget to include it in the installation list! You can deselect “Revision Graph” if you don’t need it; as I understand it, it’s for drawing a revision graph…

Usage

Open a new perspective:
Windows -> Open Perspective -> Other ->SVN Repository Exploring

Switch to that perspective and create a new location:
New -> Repository Location…

Enter your repository’s URL:
New repository

Then open the context menu for the connection you just created and select “Checkout”. Next, enter the project name; mine is “pyha.loc” (a directory with the same name will be created):
Checkout project name

Click “Next” and specify the “Workspace Location”. Mine is c:\WebServer\home, where I keep all my web projects:
Checkout location

Click “Finish”, and after checkout the project is available in the other perspectives, with a “pyha.loc” directory created in “c:\WebServer\home”!

To work with the SVN repository, open the project’s context menu in the perspective you’re working in (for example, PDT or Java) and select “Team”. To configure the plugin, go to Preferences -> Team -> SVN.
