WordPress Plugins I Use!
I suppose it’s time to list the plugins I use in my WordPress installation!
I recommend downloading all plugins from the WordPress repository.
In Use
- Block New Version Requests - keeps WordPress from requesting information about new versions of the system and plugins every time…
- Yandex.Fotki - a plugin I developed myself that displays little thumbnails from the Yandex.Fotki service in the sidebar…
- Akismet - spam protection based on looking up spam messages in a shared database of spam and spammers.
- All in One SEO Pack - changes the format of titles, adds keywords and descriptions, and blocks indexing of “duplicate content.”
- FeedBurner FeedSmith - replaces the standard RSS feed with a proxied RSS feed from FeedBurner.
- Google XML Sitemaps - generates Google Sitemaps (creates a sitemap in XML format).
- Post-Plugin Library - this plugin is a shared library for several plugins; in my setup, only Related Posts uses it.
- Related Posts - related blog posts; determines “similarity” by tags and categories (sections).
- Replace WP-Version - falsifies the WordPress version so that “kewl hax0rs” can’t find out the real version…
- Russian Date (utf-8) - corrects “14 апрель” to “14 апреля” (April 14), giving month names their proper grammatical endings in Russian.
- RusToLat - transliterates the post title in the URL into Latin characters.
- Show Top Commentators - displays the top commenters in the sidebar. Serves to encourage those very commenters to write comments… :)
- Subscribe To Comments - subscriptions to comments, a very important feature for any blog!
- WP-PageNavi - a paginator. Now there will be page numbers as well, instead of just “next” and “previous.”
- WP-Syntax - code highlighting. Though it annoys me that WordPress converts what’s inside tags into character entities. I’m keeping an eye out for something better to replace it, since line numbers don’t work for me either… When I have time, I’ll sort it out…
Temporarily Disabled
- StatPress - advanced statistics, including search engine queries… (Suspected of being a resource hog).
- WP-SpamFree - spam protection based on checking whether the browser has a JavaScript engine… (Suspected of not working correctly, since it sometimes flagged comments as spam when using FireFox 3.0.5. I didn’t investigate the reasons, since Akismet does a pretty good job).
- WP Security Scan - supposedly looks for security weak spots and fixes/helps_fix them… (Suspected of being a resource hog).
P.S. lecactus describes lots of good plugins, and there’s also a ready-made WordPress package from lecactus, though I don’t use it.
UPD: To track down WordPress slowdowns, I recommend the wp-tuner plugin and the tools.pingdom.com service; I also recommend visiting /services/
