For Beginner Bloggers! Setting Up Cross-Posting

A while ago I promised to tell you about “Setting Up Cross-Posting” and an “RSS Broadcaster,” but I never had the time… Well, now it’s time to talk about “Setting Up Cross-Posting” ;)

Cross-posting is the deliberate posting of the same topic, or very similar topics addressing the same issue, in several different sections of a forum or blog.

What is cross-posting for? Well, first of all, your posts (blog entries) will be “copied” to various communities, such as:

Which, in turn, brings more readers to your blog.

Second, search engines. I think that one’s self-explanatory!

Rather than repeat Dmitry Donchenko, I’ll quote him instead:

Quite by chance, I managed to set up what I consider a very good cross-posting arrangement for my blog. You can now read my blog at the following addresses: md5-cc2d5cc3bfe4e2ff501a9355043a7522 Perhaps I’ve forgotten somewhere else, but that’s not really important. What matters is that at practically all of these links, you’ll find posts from my blog, but each one will say something like this: “This entry was published on Dmitry Donchenko’s Blog About Blogs. Please leave your comments there.” Convenient? I think so: people who find your content on one of the free blogging services won’t leave comments there; they’ll come straight to your blog and become readers of the main blog, rather than the one we’re cross-posting our entries to. How it’s done: md5-536d6f905e691174715563993b0e16a8 What else do you need? Actually, all you need is a list of services where you can set up cross-posting, and then you can choose whichever suits your tastes. There’s a list like that on the ctrl+c blog. 12 cross-posting services with setup instructions for each. Don’t forget that it’s best to cross-post entries from LiveJournal that already include a link to your blog.

Well, that’s about it for cross-posting. If anything is unclear, leave a comment, and be sure to visit Dmitry Donchenko’s blog—he writes very well and makes things easy to understand.
